High Tea for Baby Shower
What is Baby Shower High Tea?
The concept of a high tea may not be a very welcoming fact in the English States or to a particular class such as the ‘Sex and the city’ girls. However it is a very complementing feature of the calm and relaxed lifestyle of the Australians.
The ideal time for a baby shower is between 2pm to 4pm. There is no defined place to take a high tea. It may be under the tree’s shade or in a tea house. You can also arrange the high tea in your home. The perfect time that is thought to be for the high tea is during the time when day light saving period is being observed. In this time since the dinner is taken late by 10pm there is enough time for high tea to commence.
Baby shower high tea gives to a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with your friends and relatives. It provides the opportunity to spend some time in the tranquil atmosphere involving in an interrupted conversation. This kind of opportunity will not be available once the baby arrives.
The common menu of a high tea includes:
- A tea that is prepared using loose and strong leaf tea
- Jams, Creams and Scones
- Sandwich that are crust less and delicate with eggs, salmon, cucumber etc
- Delicious cakes which are beautifully decorated, especially cupcakes
Traditionally High tea is served with special teapots, cups, plates and cutlery using the best of tablecloths. The foods too are not served in one go rather they are brought in by intervals as the afternoon progresses. The atmosphere is made to give a light feeling by using table cloths that have light pastel designs, especially flowers on them.
But the whole idea and atmosphere generally depends on how you wish to keep it. Famous celebrity Naomi Watts held a high tea baby shower in a very casual way. Her guests Kate Hudson and Isla Fisher enjoyed the high tea sitting down on rugs and by the end of the afternoon they were besides the pool bare footed.
Contrastingly in afternoon tea there are games played which is not the case with high tea. Although there is no hard and fast rule and you can play games involving girls only or male guests can also be included.
The terms high tea and afternoon tea is used as interchangeable terms which is not the case. A view in the English history shows that “Afternoon Tea” concept was initially introduced by a lady in waiting of queen Victoria, Anna Maria Stanhope (the Bedford Duchess). She used to find herself peckish by afternoon mid as dinner was served late in the evening. She ordered her maid to bring up tea, light sandwiches and little cakes to her. She found herself enjoying these tea breaks and began to invite friends on formally given invitations.
High tea originated when the working class reached home in the evening and had tea along with tit bits around 5pm to 6pm. This tea’s menu included bread, cheese, meat and tea. It was called high tea because it was served on the high table (main) of the house. Simple tea was served on a smaller table of the house designated for the purpose.
Also aristocrats are known to have a light meal at the time of afternoon tea and a more substantial meal by the end of the day. So if you plan a baby shower tea either for yourself or someone else plan a theme to evoke a creative luxuriously relaxed atmosphere.
